19-Dec-15 The plan for Vietnam

As we spent last Christmas in Bangkok as a foursome and as it's realistically the only time of year we can all definitely be together, we decided to aim for Vietnam this year.

The plan was to spend a couple of days in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the south of the country to give the kids some taste of 'real' Vietnam before spending a week at a beach resort on Phu Quoc island which is west of Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand, just off the coast of Cambodia.

We'd then all return to HCMC and the kids to fly home alone such that they could attend any New Year parties, leaving us to explore the rest of the country.

As flights with BA to Tokyo were available using 2x Amex 2-4-1 vouchers and using Ian's 2x free upgrade vouchers that were the product of his second trip to Hawaii last year we all managed to be in Club.  The flights from Tokyo down to HCMC were also available on Avios and allowed a day to explore around Narita.
